Beth’s ability to consider possibilities and interpret the big picture from several perspectives enables her to understand individuals’ multiple roles and challenges in their present environment. Her comfort with uncertainty and possibility is a grounding force and the hallmark of her approach during coaching sessions.

When elected President of her graduating class at Wesleyan, she was given the honor of delivering the Commencement Address. Standing before 1000+ people, Beth experienced for the first time, the responsibilities and thrill of leadership and public speaking. Since then, she has held several leadership positions both appointed and elected.

Prior to establishing Masterman Executive Coaching, Beth was a senior level, public affairs consultant (public relations and government relations) performing multiple advisory roles for businesses through business owners, senior executives, and board committees. Beth assisted elected officials and candidates for office with various aspects of their campaigns. Her roles covered a broad range of leadership areas including: goal setting, project management and implementation. She provided state, local, and executive lobbying, strategic communication services, political coalition building, drafting of legislation and testimony, public speaking, community organizing, and team building. Coaching Experience

Beth works with leaders and their teams in a variety of fields.

You might wonder whether it is important for a coach to have direct experience in your industry. Although that could be on the list of factors to consider, it is not the most important. When choosing a coach, please consider:

  • Whether the individual has earned a professional coach certification
  • The breadth of life and direct or relevant professional experience
  • Coaching approach, and
  • How you feel when speaking or sitting with the coach; your chemistry and rapport matter.

When hiring a coach, it is worthwhile to interview a few coaches to find the one that you are comfortable with. Through that process, what you are seeking from a coach will become even clearer. With that a coach is not a consultant who will bring you the solutions to your problems. In the coaching framework, the client is the expert in their field and the executive coach is the expert in cultivating insights, professional development, and finding out where the client is, where the client wants to be, and bridging the gap through asking questions and facilitating self-discovery.

Beth brings her background in law, psychology, business, government, and politics to her executive coaching practice. Clients choose Beth because her broad perspective enables her to understand challenges from many different points of view and with an open, non-judgmental mind. Her expertise in leadership development, group process, and what makes people “tick” make up the foundation for trust, mutual understanding, and rapport between Beth and her clients.

Beth specializes in the complexities of leadership as people navigate human and organizational challenges day-to-day at work. Her legal training enables her to sort through what clients present and identify underlying coachable issues. She knows when something is a coaching issue and when something crosses over into requiring legal advice, or psychotherapy. Beth has a robust network of professionals to whom she can refer and collaborate on the client’s behalf with confidence.

Her training in psychology enables Beth to listen deeply and appreciate the nuanced challenges for the individual in their environment. She is comfortable coaching in the presence (or absence) of the full range of emotions a client could bring into the session. As a coach, Beth delivers her insights in the form of questions and observations that empower her clients to reflect, take risks, experience their own insights, and develop sustainable ways forward.

While the client is always the expert on the particulars of their industry, through executive coaching, Beth expertly assists, challenges, and supports leaders, teams, and groups. The results clients achieve through executive coaching with Beth is enhanced performance, enjoyment, and ability to manage their shortcomings, and to express their strengths at work.
